Art Samberg's profile

Star-Studded Jazz at Lincoln Center

A longtime Wall Street executive with a focus on technology, Arthur J. “Art” Samberg has invested in a number of successful startups over the years. Reflecting a strong philanthropic commitment, Art Samberg supports cultural organizations such as the Jacob Burns Film Center and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

A storied venue in the heart of Manhattan, Jazz at Lincoln Center focuses on expanding the audience for one of America’s most dynamic music traditions. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2017, the organization has planned a season that kicks off with artistic director Wynton Marsalis leading the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in “The Fantastic Mr. Jelly Lord.” This musical performance honors Jelly Roll Morton, who held a preeminent role in the evolution of jazz in New Orleans in the early 20th century.

Another unique offering is “Leaves of Grass,” an homage to the 19th-century American poet Walt Whitman that combines the poet’s verses with a Fred Hersch-composed score. The unique piece is performed with Kurt Elling and Kate McGarry sharing vocal duties.

For those attuned to next-generation talents, trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire is debuting at Jazz at Lincoln Center in “Dizzy Atmosphere.” The performance will also feature trumpet legend Dave Douglas in a celebration of Dizzy Gillespie, the godfather of bebop.
